Before Collection
What To Know About Moving Whitegoods
Appliance moves depend on preparation, measurements and access at both the collection and delivery locations.
Transport Service Only
The service covers physical pickup, loading, transport and placement. It does not include plumbing, electrical work, installation, repair or technical reconnection.
Common Whitegoods
Fridges, freezers, washing machines, dryers and other common household appliances may be assessed according to their size, condition and handling requirements.
Ready Before Arrival
Appliances must be emptied and appropriately disconnected before collection. Hoses, shelves and other loose components should be prepared for movement.
Access Must Fit
Doorways, hallways, stairs, lifts, landings and turning spaces are reviewed before confirming that the planned movement is suitable.
When Appliance Pickup Or Relocation May Suit
This service may suit customers moving a fridge, freezer, washing machine, dryer or another common whitegoods item between homes, collecting an appliance from an authorised seller, or relocating selected appliances as part of a smaller move. Each requirement is assessed individually rather than accepted from the appliance name alone.
Suitability depends on the appliance’s dimensions, weight, condition and preparation, as well as the complete carrying path at both addresses. Stairs, restricted doorways, tight turns, long walking distances and uncertain disconnection arrangements should be disclosed before booking.
Common Appliance Moving Requirements
- One appliance between residential addresses
- Pre-booked seller appliance collection
- Retail pickup with collection authority
- Several whitegoods in a small load
- Appliance movement involving stairs
- Placement in an agreed destination room
Physical Appliance Removal From Pickup To Placement
Appliance and whitegoods removal means physically relocating an item from its current premises. Depending on the assessed job, the team may carry the prepared appliance from its existing position, load it into the truck, secure it for transport, unload it and place it in an agreed accessible position at the destination. Common enquiries include fridges, freezers, washing machines and dryers. Other household appliances remain subject to individual assessment.
The customer is responsible for arranging any required electrical disconnection, plumbing disconnection, installation or reconnection. The moving team does not provide repair, calibration or technical appliance services. Items must be ready for physical movement before collection, with water, food, loose components and connection-related preparation addressed. Acceptance also depends on the appliance’s dimensions, available access, stairs, handling difficulty, pickup instructions and the suitability of the destination placement area.
Movement Assessment
Factors That Shape An Appliance Move
The team reviews the appliance and the physical conditions around it before recommending a moving arrangement.
1
Appliance Characteristics
The appliance type, model, dimensions, estimated weight and current condition help determine whether the item can be handled within the standard moving setup.
2
Disconnection Readiness
The item must be technically disconnected before collection. The team needs to know who will complete this work and when it will be ready.
3
Internal Components
Shelves, trays, drawers, hoses, cables and other loose parts may require removal or securing in line with the appliance manufacturer’s instructions.
4
Stairs And Landings
Stair width, railings, turns, landings and overhead clearance can affect appliance orientation, carrying methods and the suitability of the planned route.
5
Truck Carry Distance
Parking position, loading restrictions and the walking distance between the appliance and truck affect labour, equipment use and the overall moving arrangement.
6
Final Placement Area
The requested destination position must be accessible and cleared in advance. Placement does not include connecting the appliance to power, water or drainage.
From Enquiry To Delivery
How Your Appliance Move Is Arranged
Appliance pickup and delivery is planned through a six-step assessment and booking process.
Describe The Appliance
Provide the appliance type, model where known, dimensions, photographs, current location, destination and any information about its condition or unusual features.
Confirm Technical Preparation
Explain how and when the appliance will be disconnected, emptied and prepared. Technical work must be completed before the moving team arrives.
Review Both Access Paths
Pickup and delivery access is assessed using information about doors, stairs, lifts, hallways, parking, walking distance and the intended placement area.
Receive A Custom Quote
The submitted details are reviewed manually. A fixed-price, hourly or other suitable job-specific pricing arrangement may then be provided.
Prepare For Collection
Empty and clean the appliance, manage hoses and loose components, clear the route and confirm that the authorised collection contact will be available.
Move And Position
The two-person team collects, loads, transports and places the appliance according to the agreed physical moving scope and confirmed access conditions.
← Appliance Moving Explained
Preparing Whitegoods For Pickup And Delivery
The dedicated service video is intended to explain the practical difference between preparing an appliance for physical movement and arranging technical disconnection or installation. It will also help customers identify the measurements, access details and loose components that should be considered before requesting a quote.
- Appliance preparation before collection
- Hoses, shelves and loose parts
- Doorway, stair and lift measurements
- Transport-only service boundaries
A Moving Setup Suited To Prepared Appliances
Appliance movement is handled through the standard Small Load Removalist setup of two removalists and a 5-ton truck. The truck has a tailgate lifter, while the moving equipment normally carried includes trolleys, four-wheel dollies, moving blankets and tie-down straps. The precise equipment used depends on the appliance, access and assessed handling requirements. This setup allows the team to plan the physical movement without expecting the customer to provide lifting assistance.
The assessment considers more than the appliance category. Two fridges may have very different dimensions, weights, door configurations and access requirements. A washing machine positioned beside a wide garage entrance presents a different job from one located upstairs behind a narrow hallway turn. Reviewing photographs, measurements and access information before booking helps the team identify potential restrictions rather than discovering them only after collection has begun.
The service boundary is explained clearly. Small Load Removalist provides physical appliance pickup, transport and placement, while technical disconnection, plumbing work, electrical work, repairs and installation remain outside the moving service. This distinction helps customers arrange the appropriate preparation before the team arrives and avoids assuming that delivery includes connection or commissioning. Manufacturer-specific preparation should be checked against the exact appliance manual.
Quotes are prepared for the individual appliance move rather than taken from a universal whitegoods price. The team reviews the item, addresses, route, access, stairs, parking, carrying distance and requested work before recommending a pricing method. Fixed-price requests are manually assessed and do not generate an automatic online price. The confirmed quote explains the known work before booking, with no separate depot-to-depot charge. Changed or undisclosed requirements may affect the final cost.

Appliance And Whitegoods Moving Questions
These answers clarify preparation responsibilities, access requirements and the physical limits of the appliance moving service.
Who Disconnects And Reconnects The Appliance?
The customer must arrange any required electrical or plumbing disconnection before the moving team arrives. Reconnection and installation at the destination must also be arranged separately. Where qualified technical work is required, use an appropriate tradesperson or service technician. Small Load Removalist provides the physical moving and delivery service only.
How Should A Fridge Or Freezer Be Prepared?
Empty the appliance, remove food and clean the interior before moving day. Shelves, trays and other internal components should be removed or secured according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Check the exact model guidance for defrosting, transport orientation and how long the appliance should remain settled before it is powered or reconnected after delivery.
How Should Hoses And Loose Parts Be Secured?
After the appliance has been properly disconnected, hoses, cables, shelves, trays and detachable components should be drained where relevant, secured or packed separately. Label loose parts so they remain with the correct appliance. Front-loading washing machines may have model-specific transit-bolt requirements, so consult the appliance manual or manufacturer before collection.
Which Appliance And Doorway Measurements Are Needed?
Provide the appliance’s height, width and depth at its widest points, including handles or other projections. Supply the weight if it is available from the manufacturer. Measure door openings, hallways, lift doors, lift interiors, stair widths, landings and tight turns at both addresses. Packaged dimensions are also needed when collecting a new boxed appliance.
Can You Collect From A Seller Or Retailer?
A pre-booked appliance pickup may be arranged from an authorised private seller, retailer, residence or other agreed location. Provide the collection contact, pickup instructions, order or release information, available collection window, appliance dimensions and confirmation that the item will be ready. Acceptance remains subject to access and individual job assessment.
Does Appliance Removal Include Old-Item Disposal?
No. On this page, appliance removal means physically relocating an appliance from the premises and transporting it to an agreed address. Small Load Removalist does not provide rubbish removal, tip runs or disposal services. An old appliance may be assessed for relocation to another agreed destination, but it is not collected for disposal.

Six Checks From Release To Final Placement
A successful appliance collection requires clear responsibility at the pickup point and a prepared receiving position at the destination.
01
Authorised Release
Confirm who is authorised to release the appliance and what order number, receipt, seller approval or collection document the pickup location requires.
02
Ready Status
Verify that the appliance will be emptied, disconnected and physically available before the team travels to the collection address.
03
Condition Record
Current photographs can show the appliance’s exterior condition, connection area, detachable components and any existing marks that should be disclosed before collection.
04
Movement Orientation
Manufacturer instructions may specify transport bolts, upright movement or other model-specific requirements. These details should be checked before the appliance is moved.
05
Receiving Contact
Someone authorised should be available at the delivery address to provide access and confirm where the appliance is to be physically placed.
06
Cleared Position
The destination position and route should be cleared before arrival, without relying on the moving team to disconnect another appliance or complete installation work.

Details For Assessment
Information To Include In Your Appliance Enquiry
Complete appliance information helps the team assess handling requirements, access and the likely moving arrangement before providing a quote. Include details for both the collection and delivery locations rather than describing only the appliance.
Photographs are useful when they show the whole appliance, its model information, existing position, connection area and surrounding access. The quote remains based on the information and agreed scope reviewed before booking.
- Appliance type, model and condition
- Height, width, depth and weight
- Pickup and delivery locations
- Door, hallway and stair measurements
- Disconnection and preparation status
- Requested destination placement position
Preparing Whitegoods Without Adding Technical Services
Physical moving preparation should be completed before the appliance is handed to the removalist team. Fridges and freezers should be emptied and cleaned, with shelves, drawers and internal parts removed or secured according to the exact manufacturer guidance. Washing machines and dryers should be emptied, disconnected and prepared so hoses, cables and loose parts cannot drag or move freely. Some front-loading washing machines require their original transit bolts for relocation, but the correct procedure depends on the model and its manual.
These preparation steps do not turn the removalist service into plumbing, electrical or appliance installation work. The customer remains responsible for arranging technical disconnection and later reconnection. The moving team’s role begins when the appliance is ready to be physically handled and ends with placement in the agreed accessible position. After delivery, follow the manufacturer’s instructions regarding settling time, transit-bolt removal, levelling and reconnection, using an appropriate technician or tradesperson where necessary.
Measuring The Appliance And Its Complete Access Route
Measure the appliance at its widest, deepest and highest points, including handles, hinges, protruding controls and fixed connection features. When collecting a boxed appliance, provide its packaged dimensions rather than relying on the unboxed product specifications. The available weight from the manufacturer is also helpful. These measurements should be compared with every restricted point between the appliance’s current position and the truck, then repeated for the route from the truck to its intended destination position.
The narrowest doorway is not the only measurement that matters. Hallway turns, stair corners, railings, landings, lift openings, lift interiors, low ceilings, door thresholds and limited space for changing orientation can prevent an appliance from passing even when its width appears suitable. Provide measurements and clear photographs of difficult sections at both addresses. The team can then assess the proposed route, but final suitability remains subject to the actual appliance, access conditions and individual job requirements.
